What is your full REAL name?
Olivia Charlotte Waithe
When and where were you born?
Where did you grow up?
What schools did you attend?
Bayley’s Primary and Queen’s College
When did your passion for music start?
From quite young. I can remember being fascinated by musical instruments from as early at 3! I definitely preferred them over dolls!
Were you musically active at school (school pageants, concerts, morning school assembly performances)?
I did the usual…performances at pageants.
How were you noticed – what were the series of events that occurred leading up to your signing with Jive Records?
It was all about assembling a team of people who believed in my talent and potential. Then lots of hard work-vocal training, fitness training, songwriting sessions, etc. and good connections to help get my demo heard. That was how it was done both locally and internationally.
Tell us about the experience. The training and the grooming, developing into the artiste that you are today.
It is all about discipline. Lots and lots of discipline. You have to really want this and all that comes along with it! The key to success is having a team around you to motivate you even when you do not feel so enthusiastic about another fitness session or vocal training session.
How did you come up with the name ‘Livvi Franc’?
It is a fusion of my nickname and my grandfather’s first name, since he was the first person to notice my artist ability. But I spelled Frank with a “c”, because it looked funkier that way.
What was the transition like, moving from a little island like Barbados to the ‘Big Apple’?
It was not so hard, since the process of recording my album had me overseas regularly. I was able to get used to living outside of Barbados gradually.
How would you describe your musical stylings?
What would you say to those that compare you to Rihanna?
Thank you! She is beautiful, talented and hardworking. So I say thank you!
Would you say that you think you have to be like Rihanna or match up to her in some way?
I think I can learn from an artist like Rihanna or Madonna. They’ve paved the road most emerging artists have to travel. But no. I think being yourself is always the best way to realize your goals and dreams.
If you could make ALL the decisions (career-wise), what would you do exactly?
Wow! There is just so much to do…I do not think I would want all of that responsibility. But I would definitely love to be able to force labels to take a chance on the music that is different.
How would you describe your personal style?
Hmmm, it depends on my mood…I’m a Gemini. But generally, I am about experimenting. Mixing patterns and colours I also like multi-purpose pieces…you know, like dresses that can also be skirts and tops.
What is your dream accomplishment as a recording artiste?
Of course it would be to win a Grammy for best song, best new artist, or album of the year!!
Anything in the near future that you are at liberty to say?
My album will be coming out early 2010!
